How to get promoted in Lagos Life

To get promoted in Lagos Life, finish a shift with 100 performance and the required completed shifts for your current grade. Work through grades I–IV; at grade IV, moving to the next role also checks your career skill and, at higher ranks, Lagos Rep, time in the role and a board interview.

Check your remaining promotion conditions

Choose the title and Roman numeral currently shown in Jobs. Enter completed shifts since the last grade change, rather than lifetime shifts. The checker shows the conditions for that specific next step and the gap still to close. At grade IV, use the advancement skill shown for your actual job or specialized track. For an interview retry, enter the game days still left on its waiting period; zero means no waiting period remains.

Check your next promotion

Match your current career, role and Roman-numeral grade. Enter the values shown in your game to see the remaining conditions.

Count shifts after the latest grade change. Days in role run from the last named-role promotion, not from the latest grade increase.

These conditions still need attention.

Find out whether you need a grade or a new role

Open Phone → Jobs and inspect your current title and the next advancement requirements. A Roman numeral is a grade within a role: Marketer I and Marketer IV are both Banking's first role. Relationship Officer is the next role. Increasing a grade raises pay without changing the underlying role.

The October 9 public client defines four grades for each non-final role. A new job starts at grade I. Older saves without a stored grade are migrated to IV, so two players with the same career can see different next steps. The final role has no further grade progression.

This distinction explains a common surprise: you can reach 100 performance and receive a grade increase rather than the next named job. Read the complete title after the shift. Use the career progression table to identify the role and its advancement skill, then use the checklist below for the additional conditions.

Meet the shift requirement for your current grade

Every advancement needs performance of at least 100 and enough completed shifts since your last grade change. The required shifts depend on your current role level:

Current roleCompleted shifts per gradeLagos Rep needed to leave grade IVMinimum days in this role to leave grade IV
Level 11No additional Rep gateNo additional day gate
Level 22Level 3No additional day gate
Level 32Level 614 game days
Level 43Level 1021 game days

Shift counts restart after a grade or role change. Two shifts completed before your latest advancement do not automatically satisfy the new grade's counter. Reputation and time-in-role gates apply when leaving grade IV for another role, rather than to every grade increase.

If Rep is blocking the next role, follow the Lagos Rep guide to claim daily missions, the completion bonus and check-in rewards. The promotion gate uses your Rep level, not the XP progress inside that level.

For example: a new Banking Marketer I can move to II after a completed shift if performance reaches 100. Charisma is not an extra gate for that grade increase. To leave Marketer IV for Relationship Officer I, the same performance and shift checks apply, and Charisma must meet the Level 1 role's advancement threshold.

Train the advancement skill, not just the entry skill

The ordinary role-to-role skill thresholds are 1, 3, 5 and 7. Careers with an explicit higher threshold list use 4, 5, 7 and 9. Look up your particular career instead of treating either sequence as universal.

Product Management is especially easy to misread. Coding 3 satisfies its recorded entry gate, but Charisma drives its ordinary career advancement. Training only Coding can leave you qualified to join while still missing the next role's Charisma requirement. Oil & Gas similarly accepts Coding for entry but uses Fitness for its main advancement path.

Choose the skill shown for your actual job. If your job displays a specialized track, use that track's on-screen requirement: the current client can choose a track skill instead of the career's default. The skills and training guide gives equipment-based routes and alternatives you can use before the next shift.

Build performance without exhausting your Sim

Recover low needs before starting work. Hunger, energy, fun and mood affect the conditions under which you build performance. A demanding work choice can push performance faster while making the next shift harder to prepare for.

The recorded work tones offer different tradeoffs:

Work choiceUse it whenWhat to watch
Do Your WorkYou want a steady defaultKeep checking performance and needs
Work Like JagudaYour needs are healthy and performance is the priorityEnergy and fun drain more strongly
Gist with ColleaguesSocial needs attention during workPerformance grows more slowly
Take Am EasyYou need to conserve energyPerformance can drop
Suck Up to OgaYou accept a chance-based performance outcomeCharisma helps, but the result can go against you

Respond to work tasks when they appear; successful task choices can improve performance. Check the wording and your relevant skill before choosing. After the shift, inspect the summary for pay, performance and advancement. The promotion evaluation occurs at shift completion, so filling a requirement while idle does not by itself advance the job.

Handle the final-role board interview

At grade IV of the penultimate role, completing the checklist can trigger The Board Wants to See You. This is an additional event before the final career role. The client uses different chances for interview answers, affected by the career skill, Charisma or Lagos Rep.

Prepare the skill and reputation conditions before attending, then read each offered answer. No answer guarantees a pass for every character. If you fail, the reviewed rules impose a three-game-day interval before the board can see you again. Finish the remaining requirements and wait for that interval; repeated shifts during the cooldown do not remove it.

Fix 100 performance with no promotion

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Read the Roman numeral. Below IV, the next step is a grade. At IV, check the next role's skill, Rep and day gates.
  2. Count shifts since the latest advancement. The requirement is tied to the current grade, not lifetime shifts.
  3. Check elapsed game days in this role. High performance cannot replace the 14- or 21-day gates.
  4. Inspect the game's blocked-promotion notice. It names remaining conditions such as shifts, skill or Rep.
  5. Finish the shift. Then review the summary and any board event.
  6. Expect performance to reset. The reviewed reset is 60 after a grade increase and 45 after a role promotion. A lower bar after advancement is expected progress.

If starting work itself is unavailable, use the first-session work checklist. If needs are repeatedly stopping your routine, follow the needs recovery guide before buying more training equipment.

These requirements were traced through the official public client's advancement checks on October 9, 2026. The examples explain those rules; they are not claimed as a logged-in playthrough. Our editorial policy records the method and correction process.
